Before you begin reading, I need to explain this picture.
While this isn't the way it looked when we lived there (IYKYK) growing up, it is where I met my best friend. It is where our life long friendship of 47 years began.
What better picture of footprints in the sand than this to represent my personal journey in this time of grief!

Life is a journey filled with unexpected twists and turns. Just when I think I have a handle on my path, something comes along to challenge me in ways I never anticipated.
For me, that challenge is the loss of my best friend, and it profoundly impacts my weight loss journey.
I am trying to do what I know I need to do. I truly am. The issue is that I either have no appetite, or I have a voracious appetite and crave all the wrong things. Comfort foods such as chocolate, candy, pasta, cheese, and bread to name a few.
Grief is a powerful force. It's like a storm that sweeps through my life, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. For me, it has manifested in ways I never expected, particularly concerning my weight loss journey.
The Emotional Toll of Grief
In the aftermath of my friend's passing, I find myself grappling with a whirlwind of emotions. Sadness, anger, confusion, and loneliness become my constant companions. These emotions take a toll on my mental health, and I struggle to find the motivation to stick to my healthy habits.
Eating right and exercising regularly require a certain level of mental energy and focus, both of which are in short supply during this time. I find myself reaching for comfort foods even though I know I shouldn't.
These foods provide a temporary escape from the pain, but they also lead to weight gain. I am saddened to say that I have gained back all the 9 lbs I had lost before she passed. I am angry at myself for allowing myself to fall into unhealthy habits. Yet, I know I should not be mad at myself. This is all part of the grieving process.
How do you cope with grief and maintain your wellness journey?
I'd love to hear your strategies and any healthy comfort food recipes you rely on during tough times. Share your thoughts in the comments below or our support group.

The Physical Impact of Grief
Alongside the emotional challenges, the physical impact of grief has also been a significant hurdle. Slowly but surely, I am beginning to reintegrate healthy habits into my life. I am starting with small steps, like going for short walks with the dogs and doing squats.
I focus on nourishing my body with healthy foods, for now, I will make every effort to indulge in a healthier comfort food (good thing I like yogurt and adding in some Sustain or Protein Powder!)
What small steps have you taken to care for your physical health during tough times?
I'm interested in hearing about the strategies that have worked for you. Please share in the comments below or in our support group.
The Role of Support
One of the most important lessons I've learned during this time is the value of support. Having a strong support system makes all the difference in my journey. I reach out to friends and family for emotional support, and I've also found solace in online communities.
If you're looking for a community that understands what you're going through, I invite you to join the Emotionally Unfold support group. It's a safe space to share your story and find strength in the company of others who are on a similar journey. You can join here.
In addition to the Emotionally Unfold group, I have another community that has been a cornerstone of my support system: my own Facebook group. I would love for you to join the Neighborhood Wellness Café. It's a place for like-minded individuals to discuss, share, and inspire each other on our wellness journeys.
A New Perspective
My experience with loss teaches me that weight loss is about so much more than just the number on the scale. It's about taking care of my whole self—mind, body, and spirit.
I learn to be more compassionate with myself, to listen to my body's needs, and to prioritize self-care.
I realize that it's okay to take a step back from my goals when life throws me a curveball. I am trying to do that.
I started the Reset phase again, I am eating off the YES/NO list exclusively for the next two weeks. It is my focus. I am going to walk and exercise more, and I will take time for myself to read a book or meditate. All the things I was doing before this. All things I will do better. I owe it to myself to be the Confident Wellness Warrior I know I am.
